The challenge was to modernize and improve the NCR ATM family from the ground up.
I led the design of the two free-standing versions and worked in a team on creating the common interface.

Form and materials strictly follow function. Re-positioning the PinPad together with the card reader and NFC module reduces hand travel and increases security. Using aluminum as a structural component adds robustness to the fascia, while glass around the card reader adds a new level of security against skimming.

Everything starts with a sketch on an empty sheet of paper.
Through many iterations it evolves and the first mock-ups get created before the design is further enhanced in CAD programs like SolidWorks or Creo. Throughout the entire design process are numerous user tests to validate every aspect of the design.

Every project has its own set of constrians, this one was no exception.
There were a set of modules and components that had to be included. At the same time accessibility, cost effectivness and business customer expectations had to be met.

Throughout the whole design process we had to find new construction methods, materials, manufacturing and assembly processes in order to eliminate as many visual distractions as possible.

Refined in every detail to achieve the highest level of usability, security and user experience.

Every product needs to comply with different, country specific requirements and regulations.
We ensured that reach heights and depth requirements are met for users in wheelchairs, and making it easier for visually impaired users to navigate through transaction.

The product family consists of multiple indoor, outdoor as well as walk-/ and drive-up variants. All share the same interface layout to maximize user comfort and a consistent experience.
